AnnaSophia's wish to go to Walt Disney World® Resort

AnnaSophia loves pretending she is a princess, just like her favorite Disney characters.

AnnaSophiaAnnaSophia is a 5-year-old girly-girl from Colorado Springs who loves all things princess and dress-up. She enjoys watching princess movies while wearing her favorite sparkly dress and tiara, but has to be reminded not to over exert herself. AnnaSophia was born with heart defects and received a heart transplant when she was only 6 months old. Although her new heart is working properly, she is immune suppressed and must be reminded by her parents and older siblings to slow it down, something a 5-year-old doesn’t want to hear.

A litter princess herself, AnnaSophia has always loved the Disney princesses, so she knew exactly where she wanted to go for her wish, the Walt Disney World® Resort!

“No one in our family has ever been to Disney World,” said Mary, AnnaSophia’s mom. “We live a cautious life with AnnaSophia’s condition and never thought we could go to a place like Disney World. We knew this wish was going to be very special for our daughter, and a new adventure for us too.”

When AnnaSophia and her family arrived at Magic Kingdom® Park, she couldn’t wait to meet her favorite Disney princesses, including Rapunzel and Merida. The lovely princesses took photos with AnnaSophia and had long conversations about her wish and what all she was going to do in Orlando.

“Normally AnnaSophia is relatively shy, but she was in awe of the princesses and was so busy asking them questions about being a ‘real’ princess,” said Mary. “I couldn’t help but get emotional – my little girl was so happy!”

After leaving Magic Kingdom, the family went to Seaworld® where they watched a dolphin show and were able to interact with the sea animals. AnnaSophia even mentioned that she now wants to be a dolphin trainer when she grows up!

At the end of their vacation AnnaSophia and her family were able to relax and play by the ocean water, which was a true ‘wow’ moment for AnnaSophia’s mom.

“This was the first time in a long time that we were able to be a family and do things together,” said Mary. “The wish experience made me realize that we were trying to survive each day instead of live life to the fullest. It was energizing and gave life purpose again.”

Not only did AnnaSophia have an amazing wish experience, meeting her favorite Disney princesses, watching a dolphin show and playing on the beach, but it was also an opportunity for her family to regain their strength and move forward with life, in spite of the daily obstacles.

AnnaSophia still has routine doctors visits and check-ups, but her wish experience at Disney World gave her the energy to remain strong and enjoy being a kid again…and sometimes a princess.

Make-A-Wish Colorado would like to offer a special thank you to VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa in Colorado Springs, CO for helping to make AnnaSophia’s wish truly special. VillaSport hosted a bingo night in April and helped raise over $7,000 for AnnaSophia’s wish. Thank you VillaSport for your support and helping make AnnaSophia’s wish come true!

The wish gave us an opportunity to be a family again. ”
