Rylan, a smiley and energetic six-year-old, has spent the last couple of years battling cancer. It was hard to transition from her normal life into the life of doctors’ visits and finger-pricks, but a ray of hope shined through Rylan’s life when she found out that she was going to have a wish granted by Make-A-Wish Colorado. Rylan knew that her dream trip included dolphins, delicious meals and playing in the sand with her favorite princesses, so she knew exactly what to wish for: a cruise with her family.
During her cruise, Rylan got to do so much it was hard to choose her favorite part! She was able to meet dolphins during a stop in the Bahamas, which she absolutely loved. She especially enjoyed building sand castles on the beach at Disney’s Castaway Cay™ and sliding down the giant water slide on the ship. One of the most exciting parts of the cruise for Rylan, though, was walking hand-in-hand down the halls of the ship chatting with her favorite princesses, Belle and Rapunzel. Rylan’s dad said that his favorite part was just being able to watch Rylan smile.
“This trip really built our family up after and helped us grow stronger through play and laughter,” said Rylan’s mom. “In tough times it's so hard to always stay positive, but this experience gave us the ability to reset and have a more positive outlook.” Wishes like Rylan’s not only give a child with a critical illness something to look forward to, but also something to look back on afterwards. Rylan and her family will always remember this special time that they spent together. “There’s nothing we would change,” said Rylan’s mom. “It was far beyond our wildest imagination.”
