Lilly was diagnosed with a nervous system disorder around a year ago, which completely changed her life and her family’s. Like many children with critical illnesses, she no longer had the luxury of playing without worry. She spent much of her time at the doctor’s office and there was not much time to be a regular kid. However, when Lilly was referred for a wish, everything changed. Lilly would be able to live out a fantasy she had dreamed of for a while now: going to a luau in Hawaii!
Lilly knew that wishing to go to Hawaii was the best wish for her because it included all of her favorite things: doing the hula, playing on the beach and wearing a flower crown. Her days in Hawaii were filled lots of hula dancing, singing and plenty of eating, which was one of her favorite parts. But, if Lilly were to pick the absolute highlight of the trip for her, it would be when she was invited to go on stage and do the hula with professional hula dancers!
Lilly’s mom said that the time they spent in Hawaii was a respite for the entire family. “We needed an escape from reality,” she said. “We were allowed to enjoy our time and to just enjoy each other.”
