I saw an advertisement on television about the organization and thought it was a wonderful concept of which I wanted to be apart of. I began as a volunteer and shortly joined the staff, which consisted of Joan- the President, CEO, and Founder. Boy do we have stories!
I spent several years in wish granting and eventually moved into events and development. Every day is different. I’ve gone from attending a black-tie gala one night to riding on the back of a hog for a Poker Run the next day. But one thing always stays consistent- the strong support of our community reaching out in so many ways to help grant a child’s wish. I’ve seen miracles happen because of a wish. A child’s wish really DOES enrich the human spirit with hope, strength, and joy. As a wish father once told me, “It gets the whole family out of the hospital.”
Tomorrow our strong community will “come together” again for our annual Wine & Wishes: A Tribute to The Beatles event. Dressing in our favorite Beatles era attire, I am excited to see our top supporters having fun and singing and dancing to some of our favorite Beatles music. Every year, these events enrich my experience at Make-A-Wish, but more importantly they help raise funds so we can continue to help make wishes come true. It is always a fun and special time for our employees, supporters, and many community members and I look forward to seeing everyone there!
I am so very blessed to be a part of the history of this amazing organization and I hope I am here another 30 years. Wait…that would make me…
Wine & Wishes: A Tribute to The Beatles is tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 at The Seawell Grand Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Check out the Make-A-Wish Colorado Facebook and Twitter pages for live coverage during tomorrow’s exciting event!
