At Make-A-Wish® Colorado each volunteer, donor, and employee make a vital contribution to the organization. One position in particular encompasses all the aspects that make up a valuable contributor. Our Board members participate in every aspect of the organization and dedicate both their professional experience and their passion for the mission directly to the organization. The board chairman leads this exceptional group of individuals. With each new fiscal year we bid farewell to the previous chairman, and welcome on a new chairman. By reading this blog post – YOU are getting to meet him first!
For the past two years Scott Esmond has held the position of board chairman. He has volunteered with Make-A-Wish Colorado for nearly a decade and participated in many different aspects of the organization as well as served on the board of directors. However, his favorite memories are participating in the wish-granting process. Scott has been a wish granter on several wish experiences including a child’s wish to visit the Walt Disney World® Resort. Through all of these experiences Scott remains, “humbled and amazed at how connected people are with the mission.” He feels honored to be able to help the organization. Scott has made a lasting impact on the Make-A-Wish Colorado over his ten years of service.
Having served on the board for many years, Dennis Brown was voted in as board chairman for Make-A-Wish Colorado in August. Dennis has a long-standing, and very personal, relationship with Make-A-Wish. His sister-in-law, Nancy Strom, started the Make-A-Wish Southern Florida Chapter, which was one of the first chapters in the country. Nancy believed strongly in the Make-A-Wish mission, and spoke to her family members about the impact and lasting joy that a wish had on a child. Nancy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer several years ago. She fought hard, but lost her battle with cancer in 2005. In Nancy’s honor, Dennis wanted to dedicate his time to the Make-A-Wish chapter in Colorado. Dennis is very excited to start his term as board chairman, and looks forward to working with the chapter CEO, Joan Mazak, to continue moving the organization forward.
Make-A-Wish Colorado thanks both Scott Esmond and Dennis Brown for their innumerable contributions to our organization over the years. Scott has done a great job as board chairman and we are sure that Dennis will continue this legacy during his term.
