Jeremy was typical boy who loved playing hockey video games and rooting for the Colorado Avalanche.
Then, his family detected a problem.“We noticed that his one leg was swelling up,” Jeremy’s mother said. Soon after, 11-year-old Jeremy learned he had rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancerous, soft tissue tumor. This diagnosis made Jeremy eligible for a wish. And what would a boy with a love of hockey wish for? A chance to meet the Colorado Avalanche, of course.
So Make-A-Wish® Colorado and the Avs paired up to make it happen. Jeremy watched an Avalanche practice, met all of the players, and made sure he nabbed plenty of autographs. But, his wish-come-true did not end there. Jeremy, all suited up in hockey gear – thanks to Colorado Amateur Hockey Association – joined the Avalanche on the ice before their game against the St. Louis Blues.
“Coolest thing I’ve ever done,” Jeremy said “Indescribable feeling.” Not only did Jeremy’s wish to meet the Avalanche come true but his family’s greatest wish has come true as well.
Jeremy is now in the remission stage of his illness and is planning a future as a professional hockey goalie.
