Football is 11-year-old Eric’s one true passion, but once he was diagnosed with a rare recurring brain tumor, he was forced to step off the field and onto the sidelines. Although he was no longer playing the game himself, he kept his devotion alive by playing MaddenÔ NFL 17 and watching his favorite team compete on TV, the blue and orange Denver Broncos. Desperately missing all the action while recovering from surgery, Eric would play catch with the nurses in the hospital.
When deciding on what his wish would be, it was a natural choice – Eric wanted to meet the Denver Broncos!
The wish day was filled with all things Denver Broncos. From touring the training facility to meeting John Elway, and even warming up with his favorite player, Von Miller, Eric’s face was lit up with pure joy every step of the way. “Seeing that smile and happiness is priceless to a mother,” Wendy, Eric’s mom, shared. The experience gave Eric a whole new level of courage, he even shaved the Denver Broncos logo into his hair for the big day. An act so small, but for Eric, it was monumental. Haircuts show the scars from his surgeries, memories he would rather hide. The players were beyond impressed by his dedication and welcomed him as a member of the team.
Since the wish experience, Eric has yet to put down the football. The impact of the wish experience was shared not only by Eric and his mom but the players themselves. They will never forget meeting such an extraordinary child.
