Seven-year-old Maya loves all things Disney. She loves watching her favorite characters on TV, singing along with all of the princesses, and escaping into the pages of her most beloved fairytales. After being diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition that changed her daily life of games and toys into doctor’s appointments, Maya chose to face each new day with strength and joy. After months of treatment, Make-A-Wish® Colorado delivered the sweetest news in the form of a wish-come-true when they told Maya she was going to Walt Disney World® Resort.
On June 2, 2017, Maya and her family arrived in Orlando and ventured into Give Kids the World Village—a resort that treated Maya and her family like royalty by providing them with constant entertainment and endless bowls of ice cream. Only minutes after their arrival, Maya and her sister were playing and giggling with all the other children. The following day they headed to the park and Maya was beaming with excitement. Though she loved all the rides, her favorite part of the trip was meeting Princess Belle. “From the moment we entered the park, you could see the excitement in her face knowing that she would get to meet Belle,” Maura, Maya’s mother shared. With the biggest hug from Belle, Maya smiled the sweetest smile that her mom had ever seen. They shared stories and talked all about Belle’s beautiful yellow dress before saying goodbye. From morning until night and every minute in between, their time at Disney World was a dream.
Since the wish experience, Maya hasn’t gone a day without talking about her trip. “The experience showed her that even though you go through hard times, there is always a glimmer of hope and that’s what this trip was for us,” Maura claimed. With hope and strength restored, Maya has already begun planning their trip back to the most magical place in the world.
