Asher's Disney World Adventure

Asher's Disney World wish

“ I’ve never seen him smile and giggle so much! ”

- Asher's mom, Amy

Since his diagnosis at 18 months, Asher’s seizure disorder has been a large part of his and his family’s lives; his hospital visits often took him away from spending quality time playing with his two brothers and parents. After finding out that he qualified for a wish with Make-A-Wish® Colorado, this 5 year-old’s love for Mickey Mouse helped in his decision to take a family trip to the Walt Disney World Resort.

While preparing for their family trip, Asher’s mom was a little nervous, but looking back now she can’t help but smile. Seeing the way Asher and the characters interacted and his constant happiness put her at ease, forgetting any worry she once had.

“I’ve never seen him smile and giggle so much,” she said. “It melted my heart.”

When describing the wish experience from her perspective, Amy couldn’t just pick just one word but rather described it as everything from amazing to humbling to impressive. The whole trip was focused on Asher and what he wanted to do—something that his family was more than happy to take part of.

“It was over-the-top amazing,” said Amy.

A month after his wish was granted, Asher continues to talk every day about how much fun he had and the characters he was able to meet. Amy says he is doing really good and is noticeably more social since returning from the Walt Disney World Resort. Asher’s trip brought him out of his shell, and that is something that will stay with him for the rest of his life.
