At 20-weeks-old, Andalyn was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and a defect in the development of her abdominal wall. She was in the intensive care nursery for five weeks after her birth and has been in and out of hospitals ever since.
Andalyn is a Disney fanatic. The severity of her diagnosis has isolated her from many kids her age, so Disney characters became her best friends. When she was referred to Make-A-Wish® Colorado, she decided to spend her wish with her closest friends at Walt Disney World® Resorts!
Give Kids the World Village started Andalyn’s VIP treatment as soon as she arrived. They provided Andalyn and her family with an enchanted villa for the week. Mayor Clayton and his bunny bride, Ms. Merry were the first characters to greet Andalyn as she began her magical journal through Disney World.
Twisting and turning on the Cat in the Hat ride brought the pages of each Dr. Seuss book to life. Between the Haunted Mansion and the Cat in the Hat Andalyn, her grandmother and mother lost track of the number of times they rode and re-rode each ride. At the end of each day, Andalyn said, “It was the best day ever.”Finally exploring the parks, Andalyn was face-to-face with the very characters from her favorite movies. She had spent hours watching and memorizing each scene. Her fairytale continued with autographs from Daisy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Pluto and more. Andalyn also spent afternoons playing with her favorite princesses, Elsa and Ana. “It felt like Andalyn received more than just a single wish,” Amanda, Andalyn’s mom shared.
The wish experience was more than a vacation. It was a time-out from a very long medical journey that created lasting memories for Andalyn and her family. “Thank you, Make-A-Wish for bringing some beauty to our heartbreak,” said Amanda.
