Alaska wish creates lasting memories

Nathan's Alaskan Wish
It was a wonderful week for Nathan to be with his brothers – his best friends – sharing experiences every hour of the day, creating memories that will be with us forever.

  • Nathan's birthday dinner in Girdwood, Alaska

  • Icebergs at Spencer Glacier

  • Drive through the Kenai Mountains to the port town of Seward

  • Glacier cruise on Prince William Sound

  • Nathan's Alaska wish

Thank you to Make-A-Wish Colorado for granting our son Nathan’s wish for a trip to Alaska.  Our trip back in August was such a wonderful time for Nathan and our family.

Coming soon after a difficult medical diagnosis, the Wish experience touched Nathan and our family.  It was a big reminder to Nathan, as he proceeds along a difficult path, that people care for him in a real way.  The trip took our family out of our home environment, with its overwhelming medical concerns, and put us in the near-wilds of Alaska for precious together time.  It was a wonderful week for Nathan to be with his brothers – his best friends – sharing experiences every hour of the day, creating memories that will be with us forever.

We appreciate your efforts in working with Nathan and us to understand his Wish.  We were surprised but grateful at the attention and the speed of the whole process.  The activities you provided in Alaska created a week of adventure for Nathan and his brothers.

Nathan has endured a lot of cancer treatments since his Wish trip.  He is handling the treatments surprisingly well, and while the medical situation remains very challenging, we are grateful for his stamina, the stable nature of the cancer (with the most recent medical report revealing that for the first time there has been some reduction in the tumor size!), and for the support and kindness of so many people.

Looking back on Nathan’s Wish trip, we see that the trip rebuilt his spirit and his confidence, and by focusing on his Wish and giving him a leadership role through the experiences, it returned a sense of control to him that is hard to keep in a medical setting.  As his medical treatments challenge him physically and emotionally, we see a quiet endurance that flows from his reservoir of strength and self-worth that was filled through the adventure and laughter and togetherness of his granted Wish.

With warm regards and our fullest appreciation,

David & Elizabeth
