On Wednesday, June 8, 2016, Make-A-Wish® Colorado was joined by Mountain Vista High School and their two feeder schools, Mountain Ridge Middle School and Bear Canyon Elementary School at Elitch Gardens Theme Park to celebrate the fundraising efforts of the Kids for Wish Kids® program and to highlight their record-breaking accomplishment. Between the three schools, they raised $93,000, the most money ever raised by a school participating in the Kids for Wish Kids program. This year, students from over 100 schools hosted fundraising events to help Make-A-Wish Colorado grant wishes and collectively raised more than $675,000.
At Elitches, wish kids and their families attended the celebration, and we heard the impact a wish experience has on the lives of the child and their family. Wish recipient Abi shared her incredible story and how her wish changed the course of her life. Abi was 17 years old when her wish to go on a shopping spree was granted. She has always been captivated by technology and electronics, so when it came time for her shopping spree, no new gadget was left behind. Some of her most prized electronics she received that day were an iPad, which allowed her to connect with her friends and family while she was in treatment and her laptop which provided her with countless movies to pass the time in the hospital and new photography equipment. Now at age 21, Abi is still using her photography equipment and turned her passion into a career, she has started a photography business. “My life was brightened so much through the generosity and kindness of Make-A-Wish Colorado. My wish gave me a refreshing break from hospitals and doctors,” Abi shared.
